#FutureInYourHands
#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.
Can you describe your role within TÜV SÜD?
I am currently the Interim Manager and Lead Auditor, Medical & Health Services (MHS). As a manager, we have a team composed of highly capable individuals with extraordinary skills sets to lead the way with new Medical & Health Services. As a Lead Auditor, my main focus is to perform audits according to the standards and regulatory requirements. Then, as a team, we collect the information and decide if we should provide a recommendation for the certification or not.
Since you have only worked at TÜV SÜD for two years, how has your experience been with the company this far?
It has been a very good experience. My passion lies within medical devices and healthcare. That is why I chose this path as a career before I even graduated. I worked on my Ph.D. at the University of Rochester. During my research, I spent a lot of time developing new bioactive coating on a medical device. The purpose of this device is to promote bone growth. In TÜV SÜD, I utilize my experience from both education and industrial perspectives. My goal is to help the medical device company make sure their product is safe and effective for people to use.
What value does your position serve to TÜV SÜD clients?
I work with the clients directly. For example, the world is changing very rapidly, and you can feel that in your life and work. This change is more evident in the medical device community. As a response to these new technologies, new regulations are being developed. We cannot follow traditional rules all the time because we must embrace these new changes. We are working with clients to help them improve their quality management system, ensure the device they make is safe, and performs as intended. Our main goal is a collaboration with the clients.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
There are a lot of things I enjoy about working at TÜV SÜD. Firstly, I enjoy the teamwork with professionals from different fields in the industry. For example, at MHS, we have experts from non-active medical devices, active-devices, in-vitro diagnostic devices, and other similar industries. They are all experts with years of experience. TÜV SÜD also provides many comprehensive training programs to help us increase our knowledge, competitiveness and help us develop our careers. Secondly, I enjoy traveling. As an auditor, I travel a lot within the U.S. and around the world. Therefore, I am able to enjoy a lot of different kinds of food and experience a variety of different cultures.
What do you find most challenging about your job?
A lot of the medical devices in the industry are changing very rapidly. To embrace those challenges, I need to be very agile and innovative. Luckily,
TÜV SÜD is very supportive of helping us face these changes. As I said, there are many training and communication opportunities for us to learn how the world is changing and how I should adjust myself to respond to those changes. The other challenge is COVID-19, which is affecting our work very significantly. For a period of time, we could not travel to the manufacturers to conduct the audits onsite. To overcome the challenges of COVID, our teams have been working very hard to make sacrifices and create innovative solutions to ensure the vital demand of medical device supplies around the world can be met.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
Since I travel a lot, I try to spend time with my family when I am not working. When we have time, we enjoy going out for hikes. When we lived in Florida, we enjoyed going to the beach. Hopefully, when I move to California, I will be able to resume that activity. We also really enjoy going to museums.
