#FutureInYourHands
#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.
Can you describe your role within TÜV SÜD?
I am the IEP (Industrial/Commercial Products) Technical Lead for the New Brighton, MN testing laboratory, which is accredited by A2LA and OSHA in addition to a CBTL for products for IT/AV, medical, and measurement/laboratory. In addition to providing leadership and guidance to the team, I provide test plans, perform reviews, and make sure the evaluations are completed in a timely fashion
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The people are great in addition to being part of a team that participates in the evaluations of a variety of products. It is extremely rewarding to know that we are a part of getting products to the various markets.
What drew you to TÜV SÜD?
I worked at TÜV SÜD from 1996 to 2008 and then went to a medical company providing standards support before coming back in 2021. What drew me to TÜV SÜD both times is the sense of collaboration and the challenges that go with providing a great service.
What drew you to this career path?
With a degree in electrical engineering I worked at a power supply manufacturer when standards were beginning to be enforced. I started their standards group and then evolved from there and got into the test house team which included preliminary evaluations, MTBF calculations, construction reviews, testing, factory inspections, and field labeling. In addition to evaluating hazards that products may produce including electrical, thermal, and mechanical, the always changing requirements make things exciting.
What advice would you give other people who would like to pursue similar career paths?
Listen more than talk is probably a keen thing. Also, you need to work hard for what you want as most things worth having are not easy.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
Gardening and making salsa (minus the weeds) is a passion of mine. I also enjoy reading, crafting, and spending time with family and friends.
