#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.
Can you describe your role within TÜV SÜD?
I am a Program Manager at the TÜV SÜD Plymouth EMC lab. I check programs and coordinate with clients on the delivery of projects as they are coming in. I also coordinate clients' schedules for what testing is required and when it will be completed. We get samples ahead of time to vet out any issues with the parts themselves and/or the test plan to make sure that we know the scope of the work is well defined and understood. Then, we put that information into our local processes, where the information is attainable to the test engineers and test technicians on-site performing the actual testing.
What about your job position embodies the slogan "Add value. Inspire trust"?
We are the direct link to the client throughout the entire test process. If questions arise during testing or we have a problem, we are the first line to them. We let them know immediately how the testing is going so that they can trust us to get them the proper feedback in a rapid amount of time. We get these issues to their attention so that they know how to move forward and what their next steps should be.
How important is a strong relationship with clients?
Rapport is everything because you do have to maintain a level of trust with the customer. They have to trust that we know what we are doing – performing the test correctly and providing them with accurate data so that they can make sound decisions moving forward in the production of these parts and samples. We have to maintain that open channel of communication so that our relationship works the entire way through the process. They need to know that they can depend on us to get them the information they need.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I like it when we can help a client. There are times when we are testing, and we do come across problems. It may be an issue that we have seen before in a similar product or a different test, but it allows us to give feedback to them on what has caused this problem in the past. Our feedback enables the client to correct a problem in a much quicker fashion than if they were just starting to debug the problem themselves. It is nice to help them and hopefully be able to reduce their time and cost in vetting out a problem. We want to build that trust up even more between them and us so that they can rely on us.
How have you been able to grow within the company?
When I first came to TÜV SÜD, I started as a testing technician. Very quickly, I was able to progress within the company. I was given more responsibilities as I proved that I was up to the challenge to accept them. My team has always supported me and my desire to constantly look to improve myself. My team has also done a great job in listening and taking feedback on how to improve the entire location and not just an individual.
Most definitely, and at a fairly rapid pace as well. I think TÜV SÜD is a good company as far as its ability to identify qualities within its employees. TÜV SÜD is always trying to put employees in the best spot to take advantage of their talent and let them grow as a professional.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
Well, if you ask the crew here, it would definitely be golf. They say that nobody on the first shift should have as good a tan as I do. I definitely try to get to the golf course whenever time permits, and the workload allows me to get out there.
