For control cabinet manufacturers, machine and plant manufacturers with their control cabinet productions, several regulations must be complied with to build products for the North American market.
For Industrial Control Panels, this means complying with the relevant safety standards:
TÜV SÜD’s Panel Shop Program qualifies manufacturers who mass-produce or custom-build industrial control panels to apply the TÜV SÜD America Inc. panel shop label to their products at their production facilities. Industrial Control Panels are electrical enclosures or controllers containing electrical components, switch(s), and control gear. To be used in conjunction with an industrial machine or other final applications.
Directory of TÜV SÜD America approved Control Panel Manufacturers:
This program consists of a series of individual measures; above all, the training of employees based on the UL508A and CSA C22.2 No. 286 standards.
Once an applicant passes the initial qualifying audit, they are eligible to participate in the program and mark their qualifying panels with the TÜV SÜD America Inc. panel shop label.
TÜV SÜD stores the certificate, manufacturer, and serial numbers of the control cabinets in a publicly available database.
The panel shop program offers manufacturers reliable and time-saving access to the North American market. Once approved, they no longer have to undergo additional tests when marketing their panels to the USA and Canada.
TÜV SÜD also offers the qualification of control cabinets for the European market in accordance with EN 60204-1. If you are also interested in other markets and are not sure which local requirements you have to meet, contact us – we will be happy to help you.
UL508 is the standard for industrial control equipment. UL508A is the standard for industrial control panels.
If certified components are used, this does not necessarily mean that the entire control cabinet complies with UL508A/CSA C22.2 No. 286 UL Listed components can be freely used in a UL508A panel design. However, UL Recognized components can only be used within the manufacturer’s installation specifications.
In addition to the well-known UL label, there are comparable markings that are also fully accepted in the USA and Canada. The decisive factor is the panel shop label, which TÜV SÜD can award as an accredited NRTL body.
