Brazil: Conformity Assessment Requirements for Sound Power Levels of Electrical Appliances Approved, Portaria No. 6, 2022

On 21 January 2022, the Brazilian Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO/CONMETRO) approved Portaria No. 6 which is the conformity assessment requirements and the specifications for the conformity identification mark for sound power levels of certain electrical appliances.

The applicable products in the Portaria are the following domestic and commercial electrical appliances:

• vacuum cleaners;
• blenders;
• hairdryers;
• other appliances that perform the same function.

The Portaria specifies conformity assessment requirements that focus on performance criteria to issue the Noise Seal under the National Programme for Education and Control of Noise Pollution - Silence. The Portaria also clarifies the Conformity Assessment Mechanism and its process based on Portaria No. 200/2021 of general requirements for product certification. The Certificate of Conformity is valid for 1 year. The authorization of using the Conformity Identification Mark must follow the requirements established in Portaria No. 200/2021 and Annex II.

This Portaria was in force on 1 February 2022, repealing Ordinances No. 430/2012 and No. 388/2013.
