New Zealand: MEPS and mandatory energy performance labelling information sheets and guidance documents published for various products

On 17 September 2019, the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) published information sheets and guidance documents regarding MEPS and mandatory energy performance labelling requirements for various products.

The information sheets clarify the requirements for MEPS or mandatory energy performance labelling (MEPL)/ energy rating labelling (ERL) for a number of products. The guidance documents provide a useful checklist for importers or manufacturers on how to fulfil the requirements of these products sold in New Zealand. 

The products include the following:

  • Clothes dryers
  • Clothes washers
  • Compact fluorescent lamps
  • Televisions
  • Computers and laptops
  • Computer monitors
  • Dishwashers
  • Air conditioners
  • Refrigerated cabinets
  • Refrigerated display cabinets
  • Ballasts for fluorescent lamps
  • Fluorescent lamps
  • Set top boxes
  • Three-phase cage induction motors 
  • Heat pumps 
  • Chillers 
  • Household refrigeration

For electric motors and refrigerated cabinets, the guidance documents also set out the voluntary requirements of pre-registration.
