Japan: Ordinance on Technical Requirements for Electrical Appliances and Materials Amendment on Appendix 12 applicable standards

On 1 August 2019, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Product Safety Division, published an amendment to Ordinance on Technical Requirements for Electrical Appliances and Materials. This amendment established the technical requirements subject to regulated electrical equipment.

The updated Ordinance set up 25 latest harmonised Japanese standards and international harmonised standards with descriptions. The main changes include:

• 19 JIS standards compliant with the adopted IEC standard are replaced with a newer version,
• 5 new JIS standards are adopted
• a provisional standard based on the adopted IEC standard is replaced with the new JIS standard established
• 19 standards are deleted after transition period has passed
