National Measurement System Standards & Regulation

UK’s Flow Measurement standards

UK’s Flow Measurement standards

TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory is one of the lead organisations in the UK’s National Measurement System (NMS). As part of our responsibilities, we are required to influence the direction of the international standards community and to maintain the UK at the forefront of flow measurement standardisation.

what ARE Standards

Documents that provide requirements, specifications and guidelines that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes and services are fit for their purpose.

why are Standards & Regulation Important?

  • Support UK policy interests in documentary standards making
  • Wider industry acceptance of new and innovative flow measurement technologies
  • Reduce potential barriers to trade by quantifying uncertainty and reducing the risk of mis-measurement
  • Promote engagement of National Measurement Institutes and Designated Institutes to form European and international metrology networks

HOW DO we support Standards & Regulation?

  • We provide flow measurement leadership and technical support to ensure maximum value is obtained from presenting scientific research findings worldwide for acceptance and standardisation
  • We chair and participate in top-level international, national, sector-based and industry Standard Committees and Working Groups
  • We produce new standards and significantly upgrade existing standards
  • The harmonisation of standards to ensure consistency
