UK’s Flow Measurement standards

TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory is one of the lead organisations in the UK’s National Measurement System (NMS). As part of its NMS remit, we are responsible for the Flow Programme. This programme provides the UK’s Flow Measurement standards and draws on the fundamental measurements of length, mass, temperature and pressure from other parts of the NMS.

A key dissemination route for much of the research that comes out of the National Measurement System (NMS) Flow Programme is through the creation and development of standards and regulations. TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory leads this work for flow measurement and globally is the leading Measurement Laboratory in this respect.

why are the National Measurement System Standards & Regulation Important?

Within the Flow Programme, several TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory scientists are involved in national and international standards committees. They work with these committees to disseminate the outputs of NMS Programme research. They also support government and industry by providing independent expertise, supporting fair trade and providing technical leadership in priority areas.

TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory activities include:

  • Chairing and participating in top-level international, national, sector-based and industry Standard Committees and Working Groups
  • The production of new standards and significantly upgrading existing standards
  • The harmonisation of standards to ensure consistency
  • Provide significant technical expertise and support at national (BSI) and international (ISO, OIML) level for the development of new and existing standards
