Singapore ratified the Paris Climate Agreement in 2016, an international treaty to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and combat climate change. Under the agreement, Singapore pledged to reduce its Emissions Intensity (EI) – the amount of GHGs emitted per dollar GDP – by 36 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030, and to stabilise emissions with the aim of peaking around 2030.
Singapore has implemented the Resource Efficiency Grant for Emissions (REG(E)) as a critical step in its climate strategy. The REG(E) aims to provide enhanced support to manufacturing facilities and data centres to undertake projects that improve their energy efficiency and other forms of eligible emissions reduction to sustain competitiveness in a low-carbon future.
