Modern architecture, timber-frame construction, innovative energy concept, PV system, EV charging points, cutting-edge inspection and test equipment – Muensingen, a town in the district of Reutlingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, will be the site for TÜV SÜD’s prototype service centre of the future. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Monday 19 February at 2.30 pm. The opening of the service centre is slated for April 2025. The modern building is going up on the site of the previous test hall, which will continue to operate throughout the construction period. For TÜV SÜD’s customers, nothing will change for the time being. TÜV SÜD is investing more than 1.8 million euros in the new service centre and its administrative building at 53, Dottinger Strasse, thus demonstrating its commitment to the Muensingen location. Also present at the groundbreaking ceremony: Mayor Mike Münzing.

ts-pr-service-center-muensingen“Motorists travelling between Reutlingen and Ulm will be the first to experience what TÜV SÜD’s service centres of the future will look like. Boasting modern architecture, an innovative energy concept and the latest inspection and test equipment, our building in Muensingen is the prototype for new TÜV SÜD service centres throughout Germany”, notes a pleased Peter Hirner, Head of the Schwarzwald/Neckaralb region at TÜV SÜD Division Mobility.

The new building is the TÜV SÜD Group’s response to the growing demand for services in the mobility sector by owners of passenger cars, motorcycles and trucks in the German district of Reutlingen and beyond. The new service centre, which is directly adjacent to the old test hall, will also accommodate the centre’s administration department and include rooms for holding the theory exams which form part of driving tests.

Environmentally-friendly prototype

Key data of TÜV SÜD’s modern service centre: The existing site covers 4,000 square metres, including a test hall with 125 square metres of floor space and an administration building of 210 square metres over two storeys, including communal areas. The test hall will be equipped with an innovative combined test lane, which enables inspection of one passenger car and one truck to be conducted in parallel. Electric vehicles will have two EV charging points, powered by PV systems on the roof and southern façade. The new building is in compliance with all regulations of the current Buildings Energy Act (Gebäudeenergiegesetz, GEG) and accordingly features a ground-source heat pump; the use of recycled concrete; reduction of the use of other construction materials such as steel; use of domestic wood species; tree preservation; and reduction of sealed surfaces. “With so much innovation, the new service centre in Muensingen acts as role model throughout Germany”, says a pleased Peter Hirner. Distinguished by its modern architecture, nature-friendly, future-focused construction and innovative interior design concept, the new building on Dottinger Strasse is TÜV SÜD’s model service centre for all of Germany.

Shorter waiting periods

“Transparency and service are the key principles guiding our team in their daily work“, emphasises Hirner. “These two principles are also the motto for the service centre’s new start at the old site.“ More service, for example, means even shorter waiting times for periodical technical inspections (PTIs) in the future. And more transparency will enable motorists and cyclists to directly witness the inspection of their vehicles from head(lights) to tail(pipe).

Diverse range of services

Beyond conventional services such as periodical technical inspections (PTIs), exhaust tests and driving tests, the TÜV SÜD experts also offer further services for motorists, cyclists and the mobility sector as a whole, ranging from valuation and damage reports to special official reports and bespoke services for classic car enthusiasts, such as expert reports for cars registered as ‘historic’ (H).

Blueprint for the service centre of the future: This is what the new service centre in Muensingen will look like.
