ÉMI-TÜV SÜD Ltd. announced the completion of renovation and reconstruction works of its premises and grounds, a total area of 1,400 square metres. The works began in February 2022 and were officially completed on 25 May 2023. The premises house the KERMI chemical and mechanical laboratories. Total investment amounted to EUR 5.5 million. The building, constructed under the Design & Build concept, has undergone a complete change in function.
Ishan Palit, Member of the Board of Management of the TÜV SÜD Group, said at the opening ceremony, “Customers of our Textile and Footwear services (also known as Softlines) expect us to have a global network to meet their needs throughout their supply chains. We have set up common standards that apply worldwide and ensure that the results delivered from all our laboratories are based on the same criteria. Our lab in Hungary will act as our European Softline hub. This investment in state-of-the-art equipment and capabilities will enable us to service our European customers at the highest level of technical competence and the fastest turn-around times.”
The KERMI laboratories have been operating with flexible accreditation according to MSZ EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 since 2019. They perform an extensive portfolio of tests for textiles and clothing, leather and footwear, food contact materials and packaging, degradable packaging, household appliances and chemical products, cosmetics, toys and childcare products, boilers, fireplaces, cookers, paints, coating materials, mortars and adhesives. As part of the global network of TÜV SÜD Product Service, KERMI currently employs 38 people and primarily serves customers and markets in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe.
One of the most important aspects of design, construction and operation is sustainability. With this in focus, the building received modern, heat-insulated cladding and curtain walls, as well as a shading system, a heat pump system providing both heating and cooling and a solar-panel system with a total capacity of 50 kW. Inside the building, state-of-the-art energy-efficient LED panel lighting has been installed. The laboratory's test processes are also designed to make HVAC systems work more energy- and cost-effectively.
In addition, in line with the dynamic changes in the mobility sector, electric car and bicycle chargers have been installed in the renovated building, making it one of TÜV SÜD's most modern laboratories on the European continent.
The opening ceremony was attended by a host of customers as well as executive members of the Group, including Ishan Palit, Member of the Board of Management of the TÜV SÜD Group, Viktor Metz, Regional CFO, Robert Ostendorf, Head of CPS Division at TÜV SÜD, Matthias Rosenthal, Vice President of the Softline division CPS, Miklós Cseresznyák, CEO of ÉMI-TÜV SÜD, Zsolt Szépvölgyi, PS-KERMI Department lead, András Varjú, Head of Sales ÉMI-TÜV-SÜD and several sales colleagues representing the Group's various European subsidiaries.
