The Commission of the European Union has recently amended some of its requirements regarding undesirable substances in animal feed.
Published in early November in the Official Journal of the European Union, Regulation (EU) 2019/1869 amends Annex I of EU Directive 2002/32/EC, which sets forth maximum levels for certain undesirable substances in animal feed. Specifically, the Regulation amends Annex I by increasing the maximum levels of arsenic, fluorine, lead and mercury in certain feed types. According to the Regulation, the increases are based on data from “competent authorities and concerned feed business operators.”
The Regulation also includes a number of clarifications and corrections to the original Directive. The terms of the Regulation enter into force as of the end of November.
