APRIL 2020 – RELEVANT FOR: TOYS PRODUCTS
In June 2018, we reported1 the Japanese national toy standard ST 2016 part 1 for the physical and mechanical properties was revised to address the risk against the blockage of infant’s airway.
Eighteen months later, the Japan Toy Association (JTA) announced2 further amendments to part 1 of the standard ST 2016 third edition in late 2019.
The major revisions include updating requirements and test methods for string, acoustic toys and expanding material. In addition, the fall testing and definition of large and bulky toys are also amended.
The Association will enforce the revisions to updated standard for ST mark system starting from 1 June 2020. During the transition, applications can still submit the second edition of ST 2016 to renew the approval for the use of ST mark until 31 December 2020.
