China: Electromagnetic Compatibility - Limits - Part 1: Limits for Harmonic Current Emissions

JULY 2024 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS

In force (since Jul 01, 2024)

On December 29, 2022, the China State Administration for Market Regulation and the China Standardisation Administration published a new standard, GB 17625.1-2022, governing electromagnetic compatibility limits for harmonic current emissions from equipment with an input current of 16 A or less per phase. This standard addresses the limits imposed on harmonic currents injected into public power supply systems and outlines procedures for assessing the harmonic components in the input current generated by various equipment under different operational scenarios.

The standard applies to the electrical and electronic devices with a rated input current per phase not exceeding 16 A, which are connected to low-voltage public power distribution networks. Additionally, arc welding apparatus are excluded from this standard's ambit, unless their rated input current falls within the stipulated limit.

Significant revisions from the previous iteration, GB 17625.1-2012, include a diverse range of updates, such as:

  • Incorporation of a testing threshold for lighting equipment with a power rating of 5W
  • Modifications to test conditions for vacuum cleaners, cleaning appliances, and washing machines
  • Amended test protocols for arc welding equipment
  • Introduction of test specifications for high-pressure cleaners, refrigeration systems, and external power supplies
  • Inclusion of testing requirements for non-induction cooktops in Appendix B.11.2
  • Addition of a harmonic current calculation methodology in Annex C
  • Clarification that multifunction devices with distinct operational modes must undergo testing as outlined in Section 6.5, unless otherwise specified

The new standard is in force as of July 1, 2024, superseding the existing GB 17625.1-2012. To facilitate a smooth transition, the China Cybersecurity Review Technology and Certification Center issued a separate notification on May 11, 2023, outlining the implementation requirements and guidelines.
