JANUARY 2022 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS, HARDLINES, SOFTLINES, TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
On 17 January 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published the 26th update of the REACH Candidate List1. Four (4) new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) were added. Hence, the total number of SVHCs on the Candidate List increases from 219 to 2232. All the substances which underwent public consultation during September and October of 2021 were identified as SVHCs and included in the Candidate List.
Resorcinol3 is not included in the Candidate List this time as the European Commission (EC) has not yet confirmed its identification as an SVHC. Resorcinol was proposed to be identified as SVHC in the 23rd public consultation. However, it was not identified as an SVHC by that time. In June 2021, the European Commission (EC) submitted a notification to the World Trade Organization (WTO) about the identification of resorcinol as an SVHC. Once the decision is published, ECHA will follow up to include resorcinol in the Candidate List.
