On 31 July 2019, Mexico approved a standard specifying safety requirement for electric cooker hoods as well as other smoke extractors in kitchens. The rated voltage of these devices is not over 250 V and can be installed above, behind or under stoves, ovens and other similar cooking appliances.
Devices that are not intended for household use, but which may be dangerous to the public are also within the scope of this standard, such as devices intended for use in shops, light industry and farms.
The Standard is in accordance with IEC 60335-2-31:2012 with some national differences but no substantial in nature.
Standard NMX-J-521-2-31-ANCE-2018 will enter into force since 28 January 2020, 180 days after publication date on the official Gazette.
