Korea: Notice No. 2020-138 on Safety Requirements for Portable Sealed Secondary (Rechargeable) Batteries (KC 62133-2)

On 21 July 2020, there is an announcement issued by South Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) that KC 62133-2 will replace KC 62133 about Safety Requirements for Portable Sealed Secondary (Rechargeable) Batteries. KC 62133-2 sets up the safety requirements and testing methods based on IEC 62133-2 and KS C IEC 62133-2.

The Notice also expands the scope of batteries installed in personal mobile devices, including electric scooters and electric bicycles with a maximum speed up to 25 km/h. This Notice came into force on 21 July 2020. However, batteries for personal mobile devices (excluding electric bicycles) will be implemented from 1 August 2021.
