EU: European Commission harmonises new toy trampoline standard EN 71-14:2018

On 23 July 2019, the European Commission (EC) published the Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/1254¹ on the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), approving the new toy trampoline standard EN 71-14:2018² as a harmonised standard under Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. Compliance to this new standard can provide presumption of conformity with the essential safety requirement set out in the Toy Safety Directive.

This newly harmonised standard EN 71-14:2018² was published by CEN in December last year in response to the increasing supply of buried trampolines on the market. With this new standard, type examination would no longer be required.

To ensure manufacturers have sufficient time to apply the revised specifications in the standard, the current harmonised standard, EN 71-14:2014+A1:2017, can still be used until 21 January 2020.
