Drafts1 amending Annex I of EU Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation (EU) 2019/20212 have been released to newly list methoxychlor and UV-328. These draft amendments will be discussed during the 30th hybrid meeting of the Competent Authorities for EU POPs Regulation in June 2024.
The EU Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation aims to control and restrict the use of certain hazardous chemicals. Annex I of POPs Regulation lists the substances that are subject to prohibition on manufacturing, placing on the market and use. These substances are considered harmful to human health and the environment. The European Commission (EC) is empowered to adopt delegated acts in order to adapt to scientific and technical progress. From the draft proposals, methoxychlor and UV-328 are proposed to be introduced as new entries under Annex I.
