Argentina: Resolution No. 16/2025 of Essential Requirements for the Quality and Safety of Electrical Equipment
MARCH 2025 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS
Resolution No. 16/2025 establishes the fundamental quality and safety standards that electrical equipment must meet to be marketed in Argentina.
This Resolution, along with its annexes, forms an integral part of the regulatory framework introduced by Resolution No. 237/2024, which set forth a new general conformity framework for products requiring certification under a Technical Regulation. Resolution No. 16/2025 introduces modifications to the conformity system specifically for electrical equipment.
Scope of Products
The products covered under this regulation are listed in Annex II and fall into four broad categories:
- Power supplies and chargers
- Household electrical appliances
- Lighting devices
- Electronic, audio, and video equipment
All products within the scope must meet the essential quality and safety requirements detailed in Annex I.
Electrical equipment intended as a component for integration into the manufacturing or assembly process of a final product or a larger piece of equipment listed in Annex II—or as a spare part requested by the manufacturer, importer, or authorized representative—will be exempt from the conformity assessment procedure outlined in Annex III and from carrying the conformity marking. However, in these cases, manufacturers or importers must demonstrate compliance through a sworn declaration of conformity, as provided in Resolution No. 237/2024, along with certification for the final or larger product.
Product Requirements
In-scope products must comply with the technical standards established by the standardization bodies listed in Annex II, which include IEC, IRAM, and EN standards. If multiple standards apply to a specific product, all must be adhered to.
Conformity Assessment and Certification
Products requiring certification must follow one of the conformity assessment schemes: 1b, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
Certificates issued under categories 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, as specified in Section 3.2.2 of the Annex to Resolution No. 237/2024, will be deemed valid. However, for category 4—certificates issued by a foreign certification body under a globally recognized certification scheme—only those issued within the CB Scheme will be considered valid. Certification bodies may rely on conformity assessment results obtained within the CB Scheme when issuing certificates.
Product certificates will be valid for two years from their original issuance, except for electronic and A/V equipment certificates, which will be valid for four years. After expiration, they may remain valid through a corresponding surveillance certificate issued by a certification body or require a new certification process.
Conformity Marking
Products must comply with the marking and labeling requirements outlined in Section 3.3, "Conformity Marking," of the Annex to Resolution No. 237/2024, as well as Section 3.4, "Labeling," of the Annex to Disposition No. 1/2024.
Transitional Provisions
Certificates issued under Resolution No. 169/2018 will remain valid until February 26, 2026. After this date, manufacturers and importers of in-scope products must make any necessary adjustments to comply with the new regulations.
