The European Commission (EC) published a new Delegated Directive (EU) 2024/14161, amending the RoHS Directive2 on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment on 21 May 2024. The EC assessed an exemption request for the use of cadmium in LED chips. To reflect advancements in technology, the EC narrowed the scope of the exemption.
Published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the current exemption under Annex III, entry 39(a), will expire on 21 November 2025. However, the EC has granted the exemption with a revised scope listed as entry 39(b). The details of entry 39(b) can be found in Table A.
