What inspired your move from China to Germany?
Jieyan Liu: Moving from Beijing to Munich was a natural step for me, driven by my curiosity and desire to expand my international career. It was an adventure and an opportunity for personal and professional growth.
How has this international experience influenced your professional development?
Jieyan: Taking on a global role has allowed me to expand my horizons, understand different cultures, and collaborate with colleagues from all over the world, which has enriched my career and leadership skills.
What were the biggest challenges you faced when relocating during COVID?
Jieyan: Relocating during the pandemic was challenging, especially with lockdowns and language barriers. However, I felt supported by my colleagues and used the time to reflect on life, expanding my comfort zone. I had to remind myself that everyone worldwide was adapting to new realities. This shared experience made me feel less alone, and I used it as an opportunity for growth.
How has your personal life changed since moving to Munich?
Jieyan: I’ve developed a love for nature, hiking, and outdoor activities. I also started growing my own garden, which has given me a new appreciation for the environment and peacefulness.
What’s been your biggest personal accomplishment since moving?
Jieyan: Overcoming my fear of water through swimming has been a huge personal achievement. It’s taught me that persistence and small steps can help overcome fears, which I apply in other areas of life.
How has your professional focus shifted since moving abroad?
Jieyan: My focus on global leadership and talent development has deepened. I’ve worked on initiatives like our internal GlobetrottHR exchange program, which helps colleagues gain international experience, a project I’m particularly proud of.
What advice would you give your younger self before moving abroad?
Jieyan: I’d tell myself to start the adventure earlier. Life is short, and there’s so much to experience – begin the journey as soon as possible.
What’s your outlook on personal and professional growth moving forward?
Jieyan: I’m excited to continue growing with TÜV SÜD, learning new skills, and embracing the challenges and opportunities that come with an international career.
