Juan Portillo, Technical Director, Periodical Testing In-spection, Spain
“I work with my team and external partners such as the government to develop and implement procedures for inspecting road vehicles. It is our responsibility to foresee and detect vehicle defects and avoid accidents and environmental damage. Also, as the technology within cars gradually advances, we must come up with new inspection procedures. I genuinely feel that in some way, we save lives, and this inspires me to work harder and better.”
Faizah Zainodin, Manager of Marketing Operations, Singapore
“I lead the global website team and we are responsible for the strategy, management and development of a content management system that globally powers our websites. The website is an important channel and is the heart of our online interactions with our customers. To successfully launch 42 sites globally, we trained more than 200 content authors and adopted an agile project management approach. Working closely with our global colleagues across functions while collectively working towards a common goal is one of my most fulfilling achievements.”
Stephan Mayer, Head of Tower, Foundation and Internals for Wind Turbines, Germany
“I personally enjoy working in the field of renewable energies as I can make a contribution to a sustainable future. My job is really varied; quality assurance is just as much a part of it as customer meetings, visits to trade fairs and conferences, and the professional growth of my team – the development of young employees especially is a great and rewarding task. My role is also about opening up new fields of activity, winning new customers and thus optimally positioning ourselves and TÜV SÜD for the future.”
Shridhar Ravikumar, Executive Consultant for Advanced Manufacturing in Digital Services, Singapore
"Being at a company like TÜV SÜD brings me immense pleasure. I enjoy fostering trust with clients, empowering them with the latest technology trends, and helping them to identify the impact these technologies can have on their business so that they can reach the highest benchmarks within their industry. Our team members come from diverse industries and backgrounds, but together as one we have the shared vision of bringing our clients to the next level."
Beng Yang Ong, Business Line Manager Commercial Products, Singapore
“I’m a business line manager responsible for the certification of commercial products. This means my team is often the last port of call before any product under the commercial umbrella reaches users. One of my proudest moments was when we supported Singapore in their fight against COVID-19. We helped our industry write the safety and quality guidelines for the production and distribution of materials such as nasal swabs and face shields. In the grandscheme of things, I played a small role, but it was an important one with direct impact. Everyone in the world wanted to help somehow – and I was actually able to do that.”
Eike-Henning Hans, Testing Specialist Medical Devices & Healthcare, Germany
“As a testing specialist, I oversee the development of medical products that make people's lives easier such as smart hospital beds that can be controlled via a tablet and exoskeletons that help people to walk again. It’s exciting to become familiar with such highly specialized technology and develop new testing procedures for them. I’m proud to be part of such a renowned group as TÜV SÜD and contribute to making products better and safer. I have my career in my own hands and can set my own goals and achieve them with ambition.”
Patrycjusz Idzikowski, Business Line & Team Manager for Structural Engineering, Germany
“As a structural engineer who tests amusement park rides, I sometimes feel as if TÜV SÜD is just a giant playground for me. Almost by definition, if something comes to us, it’s because the client is trying something new. Perhaps they want an existing ride to go higher or faster, or maybe they have a prototype for us to test. Because of this, we end up handling a lot of new technologies and get a sneak peek at where the future is headed. Even if the technology is not new for us, it’s new for our clients, which is also exciting!”
Stefano Portelli, Sales Representative, Italy
“For me, a job needs two things: a positive atmosphere and the possibility to grow. I get both in my job as a sales representative for the Business Assurance division. As someone in a fairly junior position, I have a motivation to learn, and my time at TÜV SÜD is certainly an education. I’m lucky enough to be taught by those who aren’t just at the top of their game, but are also enthusiastic about what they do even after decades in the industry. From these incredible people I haven’t just learnt the theory of the work, I’ve learnt to be passionate about it too.”
Silvia Ugarte, Elevator Inspector, Spain
“I’m one of the youngest elevator inspectors TÜV SÜD has in Madrid. I travel to sites to check the suspension, electronics, drive system, whether safety mechanisms engage when needed, and much more. As a young woman, convincing the (mostly male) staff I encounter to take me seriously is challenging. But I am the expert responsible for ensuring that all safety regulations are complied with. Knowing this provides me with the strength to be strict and emphasise rules are rules; even in difficult situations. That’s how I’m leaving my mark not only on society, but within my industry and TÜV SÜD itself!”
Chae-Gyeong Park, Engineer of Mobility, Korea
My field of expertise is providing professional advice to car manufacturers and other companies in the industry on compliance with international cybersecurity standards and regulations. Seong-Yeon Kim, Engineer of Building Lifecycle Services, Korea
My role includes cleanroom certification based on ISO 14644, construction material testing, and construction management. I also provide cleanroom training for clients to help them get to know the terminologies better and get more information on certification. Thanks to the trust our clients have in TÜV SÜD, we have many ongoing projects in East Asia and the Middle East. These projects are great experiences for me as well, and I always do my very best to meet every request from my clients around the world.
Chan-Min Ahn, Auditor of Medical Health Service, Korea
As an auditor for medical device CE marking, I evaluate the manufacturing process, quality management system, and clinical trial system of medical devices comprehensively. The evaluation is crucial for assuring compliance with the Medical Device Directive (MDD), Medical Device Regulation (MDR), ISO 13485, and requirements for clinical trial systems of medical devices. It also plays a central role in identifying non-compliance and making recommendations for corrective actions. With a systematic approach to auditor training and strict qualification management, TÜV SÜD provides opportunities for developing professional expertise as an auditor.
Won-Seuk Choi, Business Development Specialist of Product Service, Korea
Working in the global testing, inspection, and certification industry for over 15 years, I have supported my clients with differentiated services based on my extensive experience. I specialize in wireless devices, electronic components, information and communication devices, and smart health devices, providing services in all stages of the process from components to finished products before they reach consumers. To enhance product and service quality, I study and analyze the fast-changing markets, both domestic and international, and I share this activity with my TÜV SÜD Korea team members as well. We take consulting to the next level and find ways for big companies and partner companies to coexist and grow together, and we are continuously striving to expand our service scope even further.
Woo-Joo Han, Engineer of Consumer Products Service, Korea
The CSE team, which stands for “Consumer Sustainability Environment,” offers certification and testing services to check whether the products that ordinary consumers use are sustainable and environmentally harmless. My role includes providing services related to consumer-product regulations such as harmful chemical substances and standby power. Since it is usually difficult for manufacturers to find out whether their products meet regulations abroad or what requirements should be met, under the buyer’s request, they look for certification companies like TÜV SÜD Korea. Sometimes, small manufacturers come to us for information on certification processes as well. Knowing that I test products to make them environmentally and chemically safe for consumers is rewarding, and that pride motivates me to do my job more carefully and precisely.
Bum-Suk Kim, Team Leader of Advanced Manufacturing, Korea
Being in charge of the industrial security business, I consult and certify related standards and processes for clients who are considering implementing IEC 62443, the leading standard in OT industrial security. Particularly for compliance with EN 303 645, the industry standard for cyber threats on IoT products, I offer a wide range of cybersecurity training, evaluation, and certification services. My work focuses on various areas, from building OT processes for industrial security to performing penetration tests and consumer IoT equipment security tests. I certify software quality according to international standards such as functional suitability, performance efficiency, and security, and provide digital twin platforms with applied functional safety. I think it is immensely meaningful that I can provide cyber security services across such diverse fields and deliver reliable services so that companies are well prepared for cyberattacks.
Moamen, Associate Engineer of Green Energy and Sustainability, Korea
My team offers certification and consulting services for new and renewable energies such as hydrogen, solar power, and wind power. I am responsible for wind-resource assessments and wind-energy yield assessments. As a member of TÜV SÜD Korea, which has a big influence on the wind-energy market, I work with major local and global wind developers and engineering companies. Through this work on various projects, I gain new experiences every day and continuously learn, which is useful for my career. Communicating with experts of diverse backgrounds within TÜV SÜD Korea’s global network will also improve my career development and personal growth. As a global company built on diversity and cooperation, TÜV SÜD provides opportunities for expanding your knowledge and expertise with new projects and clients and colleagues from all over the world.
