Most major economies around the world have adopted regulations that mandate minimum energy efficiency requirements for lamps and lighting products, in an effort to speed the removal of less efficient products from the market. At the same time, a host of voluntary certification and labeling programs enable consumers to identify and choose the most energy-efficient lamps and lighting products consistent with their needs.

These regulations and voluntary programs are being continuously updated to reflect the introduction of newer technologies that promise even greater energy efficiency. As a result, lamp manufacturers face significant challenges in ensuring that their products are accepted by regulators and the market at large.

Today, a variety of lamp technologies are available to meet a wide range of specific environment and application requirements. Lamp types include fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), lamps based on light emitting diode (LED) technology, high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, and induction lamps.   • Luminous flux and maintenance of luminous flux
  • Warm-up time
  • Correlated color temperature in the state of stability and x/y coordinates in the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram
  • Determination of color binning (MacAdam ellipses)
  • Variations in color temperature and luminous flux over time
