What is beverage testing?

Beverage testing involves evaluating a beverage for nutrients present in it and auditing the production process, among other activities. A beverage is usually composed of more than 85% water. The remaining non-water components include ingredients like sugar, flavouring, sweeteners and colouring. TÜV SÜD’s internationally recognised beverage testing services can help detect water contamination, which can arise either in the internal water piping systems or through environmental pollution that contaminates the water source.

Why beverage testing is important

Various factors can affect the taste and quality of the beverages. These factors include temperature, nutrients in water which may lead to growth of microorganisms such as E. coli. and salmonella, pollutants in the water, and food ingredients like certain additives and preservatives.

Therefore, a stringent testing approach for water and ingredients is the first step towards beverage quality control. Moreover, beverages are subject to scrutiny by the global regulatory agencies. Application of quality control techniques through testing, inspection and auditing can help beverage manufacturing units comply with regulations and improve their product's acceptability among consumers.
