Comply with RED 2014/53/EU to gain access to the EU radio equipment market
The EU’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU was introduced in 2016 to establish manufacturing standards for radio products relating to their health and safety, EMC, and efficient use of the radio spectrum. Radio equipment manufacturers and distributors must prove compliance by affixing a RED 2014/53/EU CE mark to their products.
Radio equipment covers a growing array of products, from broadcast radios and television receivers to garage door openers and residential monitoring systems. To legally sell these products in the EU and European Economic Area (EEA), manufacturers and distributors must ensure their product displays a CE mark. Failure to do so may result in fines, products being banned and recall.
IMPORTANT NOTE: On January 12, 2022, the European Commission updated the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) to include additional legislation (2022/30/EU) for certain categories of radio equipment to increase the level of cybersecurity, personal data protection and privacy. These provisions become mandatory on the August 1, 2024. Read more.
