Testing of lighting products used in industrial and commercial applications is a fast-moving environment; testing and certification must be conducted by experienced engineers who know the standards, legislation, and regulations that you must satisfy to get your product to market. The DesignLights Consortium is a private collaboration of utility companies and energy efficiency organizations. DLC’s qualified product list (QPL) is provides Consortium members with information and guidance about solid-state lighting products used in commercial applications that are not covered by current U.S. ENERGY STAR product specifications, but which are sufficiently energy efficient to reduce energy consumption and contribute to energy savings.
California Energy Commission’s Title 20 and Title 24 include requirements for lamps and luminaires, including the performance requirements outlined in Title 24, Part 6 Joint Reference Appendix JA8 (JA8), Qualification Requirements for High Efficacy Light Sources.
Title 20 requirements apply to covered lighting products when they are sold or offered for sale in California. Title 24, Part 6 applies to new construction, permitted retrofits and building alterations and requires all luminaires in new single-family homes, townhouses, and dwelling units of new multifamily buildings to be high efficacy.
The US DOE Appliance Standards Program sets mandatory minimum energy efficiency standards on products manufactured and imported for sale into the US. It covers more than 60 categories of appliances and equipment, including Lamps and Luminaires.
