Creation of provisional national standards to support the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles in Singapore

Singapore is the first country which has developed national guidelines, Technical Reference 68 (TR 68), to promote the safe deployment of fully autonomous vehicles. TR 68 gives clear specifications for OEM and can thus be used as a blueprint for future international standards in this field. Experts from TÜV SÜD were Development of provisional national standards to support autonomous vehicles in Singaporesignificantly involved in the development of TR 68 from the onset and contributed their expertise in the fields of operational/functional safety, cyber security and vehicular data – and hence in three out of four working groups.

This collaboration has offered our TÜV SÜD experts valuable insight into the development work behind autonomous driving as a whole – in Germany and worldwide. TR 68 formulates clear (national) guidelines for the development of fully autonomous vehicles – a world first.

An industry-led effort, four working groups comprising representatives from the AV industry, research institutions, institutes of higher learning and government agencies developed standards in the four key areas – vehicle behavior, vehicle functional safety, cybersecurity and data formats.

With this project TÜV SÜD could demonstrate again the knowledge and international leadership as an independent development partner for autonomous driving.
