Thailand: FM Radio Broadcasting Transmitters Standard NBTC TS 3001-2567, 2024
JULY 2024 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in Thailand has published new technical specifications for FM radio transmitters, aimed at establishing a standardized framework for broadcasting stations allocated radio frequencies in accordance with the Commission's FM radio broadcasting frequency plan.
These updated standards outline mandatory technical criteria for FM radio transmitters, encompassing key aspects such as transmitter power, unwanted emissions, out-of-band emissions, frequency accuracy, and frequency deviation.
To ensure safety and regulatory compliance, transmitters must adhere to electrical safety standards including IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1, alongside the health and safety regulations specifically outlined by the NBTC for radio communication equipment.
Compliance with these standards can be evidenced through self-certification procedures or by undergoing annual inspections conducted by authorized technical standards testing facilities.
As part of the licensing process for radio stations, adherence to human health and safety standards is mandatory, requiring the submission of electromagnetic emission reports to demonstrate compliance.
The introduction of NBTC TS 3001-2567, which supersedes previous FM radio transmitter technical standards, aligns Thailand's technical requirements with international standards. This move is intended to minimize frequency interference, safeguard public health, and foster the growth of both consumers and the radio broadcasting sector.
The new standards officially took effect on 23 June 2024, the day following their publication in the Royal Thai Government Gazette.
