Taiwan: LP0002 (Technical Regulations of Low Power Radio Frequency Devices) Amendment on expanding 6GHz frequency band (5.945 GHz - 6.425 GHz) for low power radio frequency devices
SEPTEMBER 2024 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS
On February 6, 2024, the National Communications Commission (NCC) of Taiwan released an announcement regarding the implementation of modifications to the LP0002 (Technical Regulations of Low Power Radio Frequency Devices).
These modifications come from the recent revision to the 'Frequency Allocations' policy announced by the Ministry of Digital Affairs in Taiwan during August 2023, which made available a segment of the 6GHz frequency band (from 5.945 GHz to 6.425 GHz) for utilization by low-power radio frequency devices, particularly low-power wireless information transmission equipment. Such devices, operating at a power output of less than 14dBm outdoors and 23dBm indoors (categorized under U-NII), are subject to conditions ensuring non-interference with legitimate communications while tolerating potential interference from them. Additionally, the policy introduces interference avoidance measures like Listen-Before-Talk (LBT).
In response, the announcement adjusts Article 5 of the technical regulations, broadening the scope of application and refining the testing criteria and compliance standards for low-power radio frequency devices operating within the 5.945 GHz to 6.425 GHz range.
The amended regulations LP0002(2024) became effective on February 2, 2024. LP0002(2020) is still applicable and accepted for application till end of 2024 but starting from 2025, only new version of technical regulation is accepted.
