India: Announcement of Mandatory Implementation of QR code for Self-ballasted LED Lamp from 1 March 2025
JANUARY 2025 - ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS
Attention all manufacturers and permittees participating in the Bureau of Energy Efficiency's (BEE) Standards and Labeling (S&L) program for self-ballasted LED lamps: The implementation of QR codes will become mandatory as of March 1, 2025.
The previous BEE advisory, numbered BEE/S&L/QRCODE/84/2023 and dated September 25, 2024, is hereby canceled. Manufacturers and permittees are urged to adhere to this updated notification.
For LED lamps rated up to 5W, the model name and star rating must be visibly displayed on the lamp itself, while the QR code should be positioned on the packaging. (The regulations for LED lamps exceeding 5W remain unchanged.)
The QR code should ideally be placed directly beneath the specimen label on the packaging. In instances where space is limited, manufacturers may opt to place the QR code on a different side of the packaging.
Manufacturers and permittees who wish to set up and test the QR code implementation process can access the portal starting from December 16, 2024. Please follow these steps for implementation:
- Step 1: Log in to the BEE portal.
- Step 2: Click on the 'Secure QR code' icon.
- Step 3: Search for the relevant details using the model number or application ID.
- Step 4: Click on the 'view' link.
- Step 5: Request QR code generation.
- Step 6: Download the QR code PDF file.
- Step 7: Update the value of the used QR code.
