EU: REACH public consultation for the 30th update of candidate list starts
SEPTEMBER 2023 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS, HARDLINES, SOFTLINES, TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
On 1 September 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a public consultation for the 30th update of the REACH Candidate List1. The public consultation will end on 16 October 2023.
Five (5) substances are proposed as substances of very high concern (SVHC) and one proposal is to update its SVHC property. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) was identified as SVHC due to its property of toxic for reproduction in 2008. In 2017, the European Commission (EC) adopted the Decision2 on the endocrine-disrupting properties to human health of DBP. Now, it is proposed due to its endocrine-disrupting properties to the environment.
If Member State Committee unanimously reached an agreement, the total number of SVHCs listed on the Candidate List will increase from 235 to 240 in December 2023 or January 2024.
Table A gives the substance names, identification numbers (CAS and EC), the reason(s) for proposing and their potential application(s).
