customer success day: nearly 50 participants explore cutting-edge topics and innovations at TÜV SÜD

We are delighted that our Customer Day at our CPS Germany Hub in Garching on June 11th, 2024, was a great success. Nearly 50 participants attended the event to learn about the latest developments in product safety and innovative testing solutions. The day was packed with informative presentations and an exciting laboratory tour, providing participants with deeper insights into our work and our wide range of services.

We received significant interest in our invitations for this year's Customer Day. Within a few days, all places were already taken.

WELCOMING AND OPENING

Claudia Herzog, Vice President for Global Retail, opened the day with a warm welcome and an overview of the program. She emphasised the importance of safety and quality in today's fast-moving world and how TÜV SÜD, as a leading testing service provider, helps to ensure these standards. Additionally, she highlighted how sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the extensive requirements for importers.

INFORMATIVE PRESENTATIONS ON CURRENT TOPICS

The morning was marked by five highly interesting presentations that covered current and upcoming topics in the industry.

  1. New general product safety regulation (GPSR): The first presentation addressed the changes and challenges of the new general product safety regulation. Attorney Dr. Schucht from Produktkanzlei explained the most important innovations and their impact on importers and distributors. The need for a proactive approach to ensuring product safety was particularly emphasised. Additionally, the topic of software and data security is now receiving significant attention.

  2. Chemistry with PFAS, microplastics, and sensory analysis: The next presentation covered current topics in chemistry. Our chemistry expert, Dr. Benedikt Hendan, first explained the properties and risks of the PFAS group of substances, along with the latest regulatory developments and requirements. Participants received valuable information on how to ensure compliance with these regulations. The topic of microplastics was then presented, examining their distribution and effects in various products and environments. Finally, Dr. Hendan demonstrated our services in accredited sensory analysis.

  3. New battery regulation: The new battery regulation impacts many of our customers due to the extensive product range. It was one of the most crucial and important topics of the day. This presentation explained the key innovations and their significance for the industry. Our expert, Heiko Patzwahl, provided practical tips on implementing the new requirements and designing batteries.

  4. New ecodesign regulation (ESPR) and digital product passport (DPP): The fourth presentation focused on the new ecodesign regulation. Florian Hockel's presentation highlighted the need for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products. He demonstrated how manufacturers can achieve economic benefits through innovative designs while also protecting the environment.

  5. New toy safety regulation (TSR): The series of presentations concluded with the topic of the new toy safety regulation. Robert Ziegler, our toy expert, explained the latest developments in the draft regulation and the requirements for toy manufacturers to ensure the safety of the youngest consumers.

exciting laboratory tour:

In the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to visit our laboratories and experience the practical application of our testing services firsthand. The laboratory tour included five stations where our experts presented various testing procedures and techniques:

  1. Household appliances: At this station, participants were able to gain insights into the testing and certification of household appliances. We demonstrated how we ensure the safety, performance, and durability of appliances ranging from toasters to food processors.

  2. Sports equipment: The next station was dedicated to the testing of sports equipment. Here, testing methods and safety standards for various sporting goods were illustrated to ensure their reliability and safety.

  3. Luminaires: In our “Light Palace”, participants gained insights into the testing of lamps. Our lighting laboratory showed tests on energy efficiency and light measurement, which ensure that lamps meet the necessary requirements. The “artificial sun” for balcony power plants was presented as a new test stand. The state-of-the-art robot-controlled testing equipment complemented this demonstration.

  4. Garden power tools: The fourth station focused on garden power tools. Participants witnessed the extensive testing necessary to ensure the safety, functionality, and durability of these tools.

  5. Sensory analysis: The last station focused on sensory analysis, allowing participants to learn more about the process by trying it out themselves. TÜV SÜD has a DakkS accredited test panel with a lot of experience.

NETWORKING AND EXCHANGE

In addition to the presentations and the laboratory tour, our customer day provided networking opportunities and exchanges. During breaks and lunch, participants were able to exchange ideas with each other and with our experts. These discussions promoted not only the exchange of knowledge but also cooperation within the industry.
