JANUARY 2025 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS, HARDLINES, SOFTLINES, TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
On 21 January 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published the 32nd update of the REACH Candidate List1. Five (5) new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) were added, and one entry was updated. Now, the Candidate List includes 247 SVHCs2.
All substances proposed during the September 2024 public consultation have been identified as SVHCs. Among these, tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite (TNPP) was already listed on the Candidate List in 2019 with a condition: "with ≥ 0.1% w/w of 4-nonylphenol, branched and linear (4-NP).”
This entry is revised in the current update because the endocrine-disrupting properties of TNPP are independent of the presence of 4-NP in its composition. Therefore, the details of this entry have been updated to clarify that the substance meets the criteria based on its intrinsic properties, regardless of whether it contains ≥ 0.1% w/w of 4-NP.
Table A gives the substance names, identification numbers (CAS and EC), the reason(s) for inclusion and their potential application(s).
