TISI (Thai Industrial Standards Institute) is the national standards organization and certification body in Thailand. There are two types of product certification schemes under TISI bearing different certification marks. They are the voluntary certification mark and the mandatory certification mark. The products subject to compulsory certification include electrical and electronic equipment, medical equipment, civil and construction materials, vehicles, agricultural products, mechanical products, food etc. Other categories of products generally require voluntary certification. The TISI compliance mark covers safety, EMC and energy efficiency requirements for specific products.

TIS Certification Mark (Mandatory) - No specified validity

• Incandescent lamps.
• Low-voltage distribution link fuses.
• PVC insulated copper cables.
• Ballast for fluorescent lamps.
• Round wire concentric lay overhead electrical stranded conductors.
• Glow starters for fluorescent lamps.
• PVC-insulated aluminum cables.
• Lamp holders for tubular fluorescent lamps and starter holders.
• Electric irons.
• Electrical switches.
• Motor-compressors.
• Electric stoves; open type heating elements.
• A.C. Electric fans.
• Fluorescent lamps.
• ETC.

Remark: TISI has specific energy efficiency requirements depending on the product.

WHY the TISI CERTIFICATION IS IMPORTANT FOR YOUR BUSINESS

The manufacturers or importers who want to sell the industrial products in the Thai Market need to apply for a TISI license if such products are under TISI compulsory standards. The application requires factory inspection and testing. These activities need to be performed by TISI authorized inspection bodies and laboratories only.

FIVE STEPS TO CERTIFICATION:

• Local importer submits TISI application.
• The quality system of the manufacturers is audited by TISI authorized Inspection Bodies.
• Technical review is done by TISI.
• Type test is done in TISI authorized lab.
• TISI certificate is issued.

Basic application requirements

Various requirements need to be met throughout the application process that is not in the process above. First and foremost, the test report has to be issued by a TISI accredited lab, shipment inspection is not required, however factory inspection is. Lastly, the shipment rating label must include the following:

• TIS mark (with Thailand standard number).
• Product name.
• Model number.
• Brand name.
• Manufacturer's name.
• Importer name.
• Country of origin.
• Specifications (Warning (if available).
