    Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (SASO)

    Regulations

    IECEE Recognition Certificate:

    SASO will issue an IECEE Recognition Certificate for the products based on a valid CB issued by an IECEE approved lab.

    SALEEM (Saudi Product Safety Program):

    The new SALEEM scheme replaced the SASO COC scheme and operated via the new SABER system which is an electronic service used to issue certificates of conformity for products conforming with Saudi standards and specifications.

    Requirements for the certification and registration in SABER system is different according to the level of risk of the product.

    Two steps for the certification: Product Certificate of Conformity and Shipment Certificate of Conformity. 

    The product images for non-regulated products are mandatory to upload in SABER.

    Guidelines

    IECEE Recognition Certificate:

    • Product test certificate and report issued by any (NCB) accreditation body, approved by IEC according and applicable to IECEE conformity assessment system
    • Register through SASO and attach all documents and requirements, specified for the product.
    • Obtain the certificate

    SALEEM 

    • Local representative submits the application via SABER system
    • CBs carry the conformity assessment procedure according to TRs
    • Product certificate of conformity and shipment certificate of conformity issued through SABER

    SALEEM:

  • Energy Efficiency

    Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (SASO)

    Regulations

    The SASO EER Certificate is issued for registered products with Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (SASO) for Energy Efficiency Labels, based on requirements according to applicable SASO standards.

    Requirement for Standby and Off Mode Electric Power Consumption of Certain Electrical and Electronic Equipment will come into force on July 1, 2024.

    Guidelines

    • Each product model is required to be registered with SASO and labelled with an energy efficiency rating.
    • The rating will be assigned based on the results of energy performance tests according to recently approved SASO standards.
    •  Appliances will be assigned with level model.

    Applicable product categories

    Product categories that require mandatory energy efficiency labelling include:

    • Air conditioning equipment
    • Clothes washers 
    • Compact fluorescent lamps
    • Cooling equipment for households (electrical refrigerators, freezers and combinations thereof)
    • Electric motors 
    • Electrical clothes dryers
    • Halogen lamps 
    • Incandescent light bulb / Electric Lightbulb 
    • LED lamps 
    • Lighting equipment / Luminaires
    • Tyres
    • Water heaters

    Product categories that require Standby and Off Mode Electric Power Consumption (come into force on July 1, 2024):

    • Clothes dryers
    • Dishwashers
    • Washing machines
    • Microwave
    • Electric ovens
    • Televisions and electronic screens

  • Telecom & Wireless

    Regulatory agency

    Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST)

    Regulations

    Equipment approval for imported telecommunications and wireless equipment is required.

    Guidelines

    • Equipment approval is based upon review of existing foreign standard test reports such as EN test reports.
    • The Commission may obtain a sample of the equipment held by the Authority for testing to verify conformance to the Commission’s requirements
