    REGULATORY AGENCY

    Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)

    REGULATIONS

    • PVOC Program is a conformity assessment program applied to products at the respective exporting countries, to ensure their compliance with the applicable Kenyan Technical Regulations and Mandatory Standards or approved specifications. 

    • PVOC program was started on 29th September 2005 by KEBS, through the publication of Legal Notice No. 78 of 15th July, 2005 by the Minister for Trade and Industry.

    • Certification routes for general goods:
    1. Route A (Consignment inspection and testing) 
    2. Route B (Product registration) 

    3. Route C (Product licensing) 

    4. Route D (Consolidated cargo imports)

    GUIDELINES

    • Importers or exporters submit the application together with the initial set of supporting documents. 
    • PVOC Agents review the documents and arrange the inspection. 
    • COC issues if with the successful review of the various reports and other supporting documents.

    REGULATORY AGENCY

    Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA)

    REGULATIONS

    • In 2013, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority initiated the Standard and Labelling (S&L) program for equipment and appliances.
    • The Kenyan Standards and Labelling program covers refrigerators, air-conditioners, motors and lightings which are mandatory under the Standards and Labelling scheme.
    • The Energy Label is required to affix on the appliance.

    GUIDELINES

    • Testing in accredited laboratory as per the applicable Kenyan Standard. 
    • The manufacturer/importer applies for registration in EPRA. 
    • The Energy Labels will be issued if appliances meet the MEPS.

    REGULATORY AGENCY

    Communications Authority of Kenya (CA)

    REGULATIONS

    The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has within its remit the responsibility of type approving and accepting all telecommunications equipment intended to work within the public telecommunications networks in the country. CA is also responsible for type approving or accepting radio communication equipment intended for use in Kenya.

    GUIDELINES

    • Submit the application for Type Approval, together with the required documentations. 
    • If the equipment is found to comply with the mandatory standards and specifications in all respects, the Type Approval shall be granted to the applicant.

    APPLICABLE PRODUCT CATEGORIES

    All communications equipment intended to send, process or receive information within the public telecommunications network is subject to type approval by the Authority.
