What the standard IATF 16949 covers
The IATF 16949 standard defines the requirements for a quality management system of a company in the automotive industry supply chain, taking any individual and additionally applicable customer requirements into consideration. These requirements include, but are not limited to:
- The organization has established a suitable, process-focused management system which includes mechanisms for risk identification, self-assessment, preventive and corrective action, continuous improvement of performance and evaluation, distribution and implementation of customer-specific requirements of customers in the automotive industry. For this purpose, the organization must, as a minimum requirement, furnish proof of the processes, procedures, records and key performance indicators required by this international standard and the respective customer.
- The certified organization defines the required characteristics of the value-added products and services offered, such as surface treatment, and the underlying processes, and ensures regular surveillance to meet the quality requirements of customers.
