Supporting our clients’ carbon and environmental initiatives
Supporting our clients’ carbon and environmental initiatives
Since 2005, TÜV SÜD (formerly Ruby Canyon Environmental) has helped organizations measure, manage, and validate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of their journey toward sustainability and net zero. In December 2022, Ruby Canyon Environmental and Ruby Canyon Mexico were acquired by TÜV SÜD America, Inc. Now operating under the TÜV SÜD brand, the environmental team continues to deliver the same expertise and high-quality service clients have come to rely on.
We support clients across industries with end-to-end solutions for carbon reporting and emissions reduction, ensuring compliance and credibility in both voluntary and compliance carbon markets:
We independently verify GHG inventories based on ISO 14064-1, ISO 14067, and the GHG Protocol. Our structured 5-phase approach (planning, audit, data review, report issuance, and certification) ensures transparency, traceability, and trust in reported emissions.
Accurate reporting is critical. We deliver third-party GHG assurance to validate the completeness, consistency, and accuracy of emissions data in line with ISO 14064-3 and other leading standards. This builds stakeholder confidence and meets regulatory and investor expectations.
We validate and verify carbon offset projects for voluntary and compliance markets, including methodologies under Verra, Gold Standard, ACR, CAR, and the UNFCCC. This ensures project integrity, additionality, and permanence — critical factors for carbon credit issuance and trading.
TÜV SÜD provides independent verification of site-level emissions as required by regulatory frameworks, including EU ETS, CBAM, and North American GHG programs. Our expertise ensures alignment with ISO 14064-3 and country-specific compliance schemes.
We operate across both voluntary and compliance carbon markets, offering assurance for initiatives such as:
Our team supports projects at every stage — from initial validation to ongoing credit issuance — ensuring data integrity and environmental credibility in a rapidly evolving global carbon market.
Integrity is paramount for our organization. We are ISO/IEC 17029:2019 accredited by two International Accreditation Forum bodies: ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and Entidad Mexicana de Acreditación (EMA), which allows us to provide assurance for environmental programs around the world.

Voluntary carbon markets allow companies, organizations, and individuals to purchase carbon credits by choice to meet voluntary climate or ESG goals; they follow voluntary standards and registries and tend to focus on additional, verifiable emission reductions or removals. Compliance carbon markets are created by law or regulation (for example emissions trading systems) and require covered entities to surrender allowances or offsets to meet legally binding obligations; program rules, credit eligibility and enforcement are regulator-defined.
TÜV SÜD America has validated and verified a wide range of project types for both voluntary and compliance programs, including: coal mine methane; landfill gas; wastewater; renewable energy; energy efficiency; fuel switching; oil & gas emissions reductions; composting; cropland; grasslands and rangeland management; livestock methane; N2O abatement at industrial plants; ozone‑depleting substances and HFC destruction; forestry projects (ARR, IFM, REDD+); and transportation projects.
To ensure integrity. Third‑party verification provides independent assurance that GHG inventories and reported emission reductions or removals are accurate, complete and consistent with relevant standards. It increases credibility with regulators, investors and customers, detects methodological or data errors, reduces the risk of greenwashing, and supports comparability and traceability of claims across programs and markets.
TÜV SÜD America has numerous accreditations including:
TÜV SÜD America provides GHG assurance across Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity/heat/cooling) and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions across the value chain) for voluntary and compliance programs.
TÜV SÜD is an ideal partner for greenhouse‑gas (GHG) assurance because it combines global technical expertise, recognized accreditations, long experience in carbon assurance work (previously as Ruby Canyon, and independence needed to meet both voluntary and compliance program requirements.
