The publication of technical and legal requirements for highly automated driving in Europe, at an international (Regulation (EU) 2022/1426) and national level (e.g. German AFGBV), has resulted in a new framework that clarifies legal obligations for all parties involved in autonomous vehicle (AV) development. At their core, the new regulations for AVs in Europe follow the existing type approval approach for conventional vehicles, but also extend to autonomous driving (AD) functions.
