Field evaluation of electrical equipment
Field evaluation of electrical equipment
Field labeling and evaluation, sometimes referred to as UL field inspections or UL field evaluations, allows a certification expert to assess your product in the field when you have not been able to conduct the normal certification process for machinery in the US.
We know that time is precious when it comes to evaluating your equipment, and downtime can be expensive. But with our lightning-fast turnaround times and meticulous attention to detail, you can rest assured that you'll receive rapid and reliable service when you need it most. So why wait? Let us help you get the certification you need without any hassle or delay!

Field labeling and field evaluation is the process of inspection, and application of a label onto a product to indicate that basic electrical and safety requirements for the products to be powered and put into service have been met. Field evaluations are used for one-of-a-kind, custom equipment or prototype equipment that is not intended to be mass-produced. Red tagged items may also be a reason for your field evaluation, as well as assessing whether modifications made to previously listed equipment are compliant.
In the U.S, testing for compliance must be performed by an authorized Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). TÜV SÜD is such an NRTL, as well as an A2LA accredited Field Evaluation Body (FEB).
If, after the field evaluation, your equipment is found to be in compliance, the TÜV SÜD inspection label will be affixed. The TÜV SÜD inspection label lets inspectors know that your product is in compliance with nationally accepted standards. The TÜV SÜD inspection label is widely recognized by AHJs (Authority Having Jurisdiction) nationwide.
TÜV SÜD provides field labeling and field evaluation services for most types of equipment in most jurisdictions including:
TÜV SÜD can evaluate to a wide range of relevant safety standards, including most UL, NFPA, and ANSI certifications. Some of the most common standards we assess for are:
"TÜV SÜD has been instrumental in ensuring Eneon’s equipment complies with both Canadian and U.S. electrical safety codes and standards. Their customer service is unparalleled, and their Project Safety Engineers have worked closely with us through strict schedules to provide a smooth and efficient field evaluation process. TÜV SÜD is an industry-leading NRTL, and their future-focused approach helps to manage risk in the ever evolving Battery Energy Storage industry. We highly recommend the TÜV SÜD team and will continue to partner with TÜV SÜD in the future!" - Mitch Kucey, P.Eng, Project Manager, Eneon ES | Battery Energy Storage Systems
