Automotive mechanical shock testing
Evaluate automotive components with mechanical shock testing to measure resistance to sudden motion changes and real-world driving impacts.About mechanical shock testing
Automotive mechanical shock testing evaluates the resistance of automotive components to sudden, abrupt motion changes associated with real-world driving conditions. Although similar to automotive vibration testing, mechanical shock is distinguished from vibration testing where the stress is applied for a longer period of time, ranging from a few minutes to many weeks. Mechanical shock tests have typical durations of less than one second per shock, although multiple shocks over longer time periods are commonly performed.
Automotive products are required to meet rigorous standards for resistance to shock and vibration. Testing the ability of a component to withstand mechanical shocks is important to confirm durability and performance, meet OEM requirements, and to support ongoing product improvement.
