OCTOBER 2023 - HARDLINE, TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
As a follow-up to the Lawsuit that Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) filed on 30 November 2022 challenging the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)’s rule on Custom Window Covering1, the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled2 unanimously in favor of the WCMA’s petition for review on 12 September 2023, vacating the CPSC’s rule and remanding the matter back to the agency. As a result, CPSC could address the court's concerns and create another rule to replace this remanded one.
At this time, the existing industry standard, ANSI/WCMA A100.1-20183, covering both custom and stock window covering remains in effect. The standard was updated in 2022 with an effective date of 1 June 2024. The new version3 eliminates the use of free-hanging operating cords, free-hanging tilt cords, and multiple cord connectors on all custom window covering products.
