Electromobility is in the fast lane worldwide. Widely available and reliably functioning charging infrastructure and high-speed charging systems are important building blocks for the spread of electric vehicles. At its Straubing location, TÜV SÜD has expanded its laboratory capacities for testing charging points and electric vehicles. The experts there can now perform tests up to a power capacity of 360 kW:
The primary markets for electromobility are located in Asia, North America and Europe. By expanding the capacities in our EMC laboratory, we now provide an entire range of tests according to all international standards. We offer our customers support during design and development, helping them to improve their understanding of the regulatory requirements. Testing of charging points with power capacities of up to 360 kW incorporates a host of topics including electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), functional safety and environmental and radio frequency testing, which must be suitable for both the European and the international market.
Beyond questions related to EMC and grid compatibility, a further focus of the new testing laboratory in Straubing concerns issues associated with communication between vehicle, charging point and network. In addition to the European combined charging system (CCS), our laboratory can also test the Japanese CHAdeMO system and Chinese charging points according to the GB/T standard. These interoperability tests are important to ensure any vehicle of any make can be charged at any charging point worldwide – safely and reliably.
