TÜV SÜD is a globally operating company with a correspondingly international supply chain. Our Procurement function orders goods and services from over 10,000 suppliers in more than 80 countries. We use regional or local suppliers for around 90 percent of our procurement volume. Short transport routes contribute to climate protection and support local employment markets and local infrastructure.
In addition to ethical conduct in compliance with legal regulations at all times and the avoidance of risks, sustainable business operations also call for social and ecological criteria to be considered in purchase decisions. With this in mind, we increasingly opt for suppliers who are as committed to their corporate responsibility as we are.
To further clarify our sustainability philosophy across the supply chain, we have implemented our Supplier Code of Conduct (SCoC), which commits our suppliers to comply with the sustainability requirements of TÜV SÜD. The SCoC has been published in German and 15 further languages to date. In the future, our suppliers will be assessed for sustainability aspects before being contracted to provide goods or services. In 2022 almost 90 percent of our key procurement processes, in other words contracts individually exceeding EUR 500,000, were processed in compliance with the requirements set forth in the SCoC.
TÜV SÜD has won the Sustainable Supply Award 2023 of the German Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BME) with its Purchasing division. The company received the award for its innovative and comprehensive concept and implementation of a sustainable reorganisation of the purchasing organisation and processes.
Consistent respect for human rights and the protection of the environment are firmly anchored in our codes of conduct, policies, and contracts, specifically the TÜV SÜD Code of Conduct, the TÜV SÜD Supplier Code of Conduct, and the relevant policies of the Procurement and HR functions. Our corporate strategy for compliance with human-rights and environment-related due diligence obligations is part of our policy statement. Each and every member of TÜV SÜD is called upon to pay particular attention to the rights of vulnerable individuals and groups, including women, children, people with disabilities, migrant workers, and indigenous communities, and to generate a positive impact across the supply chain in this respect.
