What is COSIRI assessment for sustainability?

In today’s world, sustainability is no longer optional. It’s a business imperative. Companies are under increasing pressure from policymakers, investors, and customers to align their operations with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and contribute to global Net Zero goals. As such, businesses must gain a clear understanding of their sustainability performance and identify areas for improvement.

COSIRI sustainability assessments from TÜV SÜD provide organisations with valuable insights into their environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices. Our assessments allow companies to benchmark their performance, set clear ESG targets, and develop actionable roadmaps to achieve long-term sustainability.

Whether you are at the beginning of your sustainability journey or looking to refine your strategy, a comprehensive assessment from TÜV SÜD can help you drive progress and meet regulatory requirements.

Why COSIRI assessment for sustainability is important

A COSIRI assessment is vital to benchmark your ESG performance against industry standards. This will help you overcome a common challenge organisations face, where they struggle to define and integrate sustainability goals into their overall business strategy.

An assessment identifies gaps in your sustainability practices and aligns your operations with global goals. This will help you identify which sustainability actions will deliver the highest impact based on your unique goals. You will build resilience by adopting sustainable business models that reduce risk and enhance operational efficiency.

Without a clear understanding of the costs and benefits of sustainability initiatives, businesses may misallocate resources. An assessment will create actionable roadmaps with milestones to achieve Net Zero and improve ESG performance. It will also help you implement sustainability across an entire organisation – from supply chain sustainability to operations.

Another common difficulty businesses face is varying stakeholder engagement. Different stakeholders, from customers to regulators, have differing sustainability expectations, making it challenging to meet all demands. Securing leadership buy-in and ensuring that all levels of the company are aligned with sustainability objectives can be difficult. A thorough assessment can help you achieve this alignment.

What our COSIRI sustainability benchmarking services include

The Consumer Sustainability Industry Readiness Index (COSIRI) provides a globally recognised framework to assess sustainability maturity. Developed by the International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT), COSIRI evaluates a company’s ESG performance across 24 key dimensions. These dimensions span four core areas: Strategy and risk management, Sustainable business processes, Technology, and Organisation and governance – with Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions as a critical focus.

Through the COSIRI assessment for sustainability, businesses can benchmark their performance, identify gaps, and develop actionable roadmaps to achieve sustainability goals such as Net Zero targets.

There are two COSIRI assessment types: COSIRI-10 & COSIRI-24.

COSIRI-10

A streamlined assessment for SMEs and MNCs seeking a quick snapshot of their environmental performance. COSIRI-10 evaluates GHG emissions, energy use, water consumption, and waste management. It provides key insights into sustainability opportunities and areas for improvement.

  • Who it's for: SMEs starting their sustainability journey, or MNCs seeking an interim sustainability check.
  • Deliverables: Score for 10 dimensions, GHG profile, prioritisation matrix, and star emblem rating for industry comparison.
