Certification mark for Food Grade Quality

Certification mark for Food Grade Quality

Scope:

The certification mark applies to water-filter cartridges, household water filters, electric kettles and, where applicable, products that come into contact with food.

Basis of certification:

Depending on the product in question, the test procedures developed by TÜV SÜD are based on various different standards, such as:
- EN 60335-1 (Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 1: General requirements)
- EN 60335-2-15 (Household and similar electrical appliances – Part 2-15: Particular requirements for appliances for heating liquids)
- DIN 10521:2009 (Food hygiene – Household water filters using cation exchange resin and activated carbon)
- Regulation 1935/2004/EC and the German Food and Feed Code (Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch, LFGB)
- DIN 18879-1 (Equipment for commercial kitchens – Systems for treatment of potable water for commercial kitchens – Part 1: Decarbonisation-systems installed before equipment for commercial kitchens).

Key words of the certification mark:

  • Food Grade Quality
The product certified by TÜV SÜD Product Service is suitable for use in conjunction with food products. It does not emit any harmful substances that may migrate from the product to any food products that come into contact with the product.
  • Safety tested
The voluntary certification mark with the statement “Safety tested” is issued for products, indicating that the product was tested and certified by the independent third-party organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements.

  • Production monitored
Periodic surveillance of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification that includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD Product Service verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product testing.

In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will be withdrawn and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
