Certification mark for electrical enclosures

Certification mark for electrical enclosures

Scope:

The certification mark applies to electrical enclosures.

Basis of certification:

The certification mark is based on the EN 60529 standard (Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code)). Equipment that may not be used in all environmental conditions is categorised by IP (ingress protection) rating. Two characteristic numerals (digits) indicate the degree to which an enclosure is protected against the ingress of foreign bodies and water. The revision of the standard was extended by adding the degree of protection IPX9 (testing the resistance of enclosures against high-pressure cleaners).

Key words of the certification mark:

  • Dust Proof
The statement “Dust proof” means that the certified enclosure will permit the ingress of a certain amount of dust only under certain conditions.
  • Splash proof
The statement “Splash proof” means that the enclosure is protected against water sprayed from all directions.
  • IP 56
In the IP Code, the number 5 stands for protection against dust deposits inside the enclosure. The number 6 stands for protection against high-pressure jets.

  • Safety tested
The voluntary certification mark with the statement "Safety tested" is issued for products, indicating that the product was tested and certified by the independent third-party organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements.
  • Production monitored
Periodic surveillance of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification which includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product check.

In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will be withdrawn and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
