Certification mark for baby and children supplies

Scope:

The certification mark applies to wheeled child conveyances, table-mounted chairs, safety barriers, child harness (reins and similar articles), baby bouncers, seats for bicycles, soothers, rubber teats and soother holders, drinking equipment, cutlery and feeding utensils, baby walking frames, baby carriers (with/without frame), reclined cradles, changing units for domestic use, carry cots and stands, child cots and folding cots for domestic use, playpens for domestic use, child high chairs, and bicycle Trailers.

Basis of certification:

The certification mark is awarded within the framework of voluntary testing and certification. It demonstrates that the product has been tested and certified by the third-party organisation TÜV SÜD. The certification mark is only affixed to products that undergo inspection by TÜV SÜD Product Service and comply with the criteria quoted below.

Additionally the products have to pass the tests according to the TÜV SÜD test program (PPP 25081 child care articles). The tests are based on various directives and standards (for example, DIN 53160-1 "Determination of the colourfastness of articles for common use," DIN EN 71 "Safety of toys″, AfPS GS PAHs), which regulate necessary mechanical and chemical requirements and test criteria.

The products have been certified by the third-party expert organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service. Within the scope of certification, products which primarily involve chemical requirements were subjected to goods inspection by TÜV SÜD Product Service.

Key Words of the certification mark

  • Tested for toxic substances
For the statement "Tested for toxic substances", TÜV SÜD tested the product for hazardous substances. Any harmful substances present in the product complied with or remained under the relevant limits. The test is based on legal requirements, with TÜV SÜD applying even stricter criteria in some cases.
  • Safety tested
Another focus beside to product quality is product safety, which TÜV SÜD determines by performing safety-related tests on the series-manufactured products. The voluntary certification mark with the statement "Safety tested" is issued, indicating that the product was tested and certified for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements.

The certification criteria vary depending on the products in question. While the focus in the case of a hair dryer, for example, is on electrical safety, the focus in the case of a car jack is on the mechanical characteristics. Certification is based on product-specific standards and test programs, which are identified on the relevant certificate.
