Certification mark Energy

Scope:

The certification mark applies to energy-related products. To function as intended, energy-related products are dependent on energy input in the form of electricity, fossil fuels or energy from renewable sources.

Examples include household appliances and office equipment, heating and lighting systems. Also included in the scope are products that are dependent on energy input and intended to be incorporated into a product by end-users.

Means for transporting people and goods are excluded.

Basis of certification:

The certification mark is awarded within the framework of voluntary testing and certification.
Purpose of the mark is to show that the product concerned is tested for power consumption and energy efficiency according applicable internationally recognized standards/norms. Depending on the product also water consumption and standby/off mode power consumption is tested. Latest valid national and/or international recognized standards shall be used as test methods.

For Refrigerators it is e.g. IEC 62552, for Air conditioner e.g. ISO 5151 and EN 14511 and for television e.g. IEC 62087.

Key words of the certification mark:

The certification mark always includes the following statements: “Energy”, “Energy efficiency”, “Power consumption”, “Production monitoring”. Depending on the scope of certification, the pictogram with the “S” symbol for “Safety” may be added.

  • Energy

The certification mark with the “Energy” statement is awarded to energy-related products that fulfil the energy-related criteria of TÜV SÜD Product Service.

  • Power Consumption

The certified products are tested for their power consumption during use.

  • Energy Efficiency
The certified products are tested for their energy efficiency. Certification is based on product-specific standards and values. This includes the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) for lamps, and the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) for air-conditioning Systems.
  • Production monitored
Periodic surveillance and/or monitoring of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification that includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD Product Service verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product testing.

In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will become invalid and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
